You'll be able to get to where you're going fast with support for TeleNav GPS Navigator software (which requires an optional Bluetooth GPS receiver). And this quad-band GSM version of the Centro for AT&T also features walkie talkie-style Push to Talk (PTT) communication in addition to voice dialing and speakerphone capabilities. The integrated Palm OS 5.4.9 operating system also plays nicely with Windows XP and Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.2 and higher.
The Palm Centro's full QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to type text messages, IMs, and e-mails. What Customers Say About Palm Centro White Phone (AT&T):
|
|
:) The phone is still a great phone. It's something you might want to laugh at. And to be honest, I was so excited when I received it that I was happy to show my cat. It goes on standby. You hold the off button, and it says "Phone off." meaning you can't receive messages or calls. Especially iwth the tiny keyboard, that would have been helpful.I've had many problems with this phone and it's Hotsync feature which I hardly have a clue about.
You can click all of those buttons, even use an onscreen numberpad, but no onscreen keyboard. My God, I'm glad I have nails as a man male or I'd have difficulty using the ends of my fingers to type. The buttons are around the size of a ballpoint pen tip. There's no way to get out of it.
No way to exit except disconnecting your battery MIGHT work.I also dislike the material the phone is made out of. I had to take back my phone about twice after a few months until I finally got lucky and it no longer does this error. It's too glossy and metal. It's just a bad mix in my opinion. well, kitten.
There's a button I sometimes click, which I forgot since I haven't had the error before, and it exists out. Well, you're screwed. A second later or two, it comes back on. You don't need to turn it on, and probably even take it out of the package to see how small the keyboard is. Also, I don't want to explain it.Also, you can't turn this phone off. My God.With all the touchscreen phones with an onscreen keyboard, it's hilarious that this touchscreen phone with a pointer or styler or whatever you may call it.
I enjoy the messaging and how all the texts of one contact is put into one place like a chat conversation, I enjoy the touchscreen phone numeral pad, I enjoy the high quality camera and video and connecting it to my computer to upload it. So, expecting not to charge your phone for another month because you hardly left your old one on. As I used it more, I began to see the flaws, and now I'm hating it, after wanting more. One of the biggest flaws is the keyboard. It's very tiny and difficult to type, it just frustrates me. I'm not sure how common it is, but if you touch the ends of the phone where you connect the charger, and your finger has natural moisture or maybe you poured a gallon of mineral oil on your hand, (in that case, it's your fault) your phone will think you're trying to connect to the computer.
If it's more than $80, you shouldn't get it. It's great for your buck. When having this product ordered, I had high hopes for it. doesn't have an onscreen keyboard. but it's alright so no points taken off.
Top-notch contact, calendar and memos management.4. Brisk, peppy response and rarely locks up or freezes.5. Camera is bare minimum at 1.3 Megapixels and music function is basic with 2.5 mm audio jack. The style is simple, unadorned and functional a.k.a. Solid, reliable phone.2.
Blackberry Storm has a gorgeous screen and excellent email device but has very buggy software and constantly freezes. Clear sound. Instead of micro-USB or mini-USB, it uses proprietary cable which is hard to take out. Web browser is fast for mobile sites but otherwise barely functional - Internet is available but browsing is not enjoyable like on iPhone. A-one Microsoft office document functionality with Documents-to-Go.6. Good QWERTY keyboard.7. But there is scope for improvement, it could be lighter and thinner. AT&T has poor network signal and coverage, the calls drop all the time and sound on iPhone is average.2.
Functions well as a tethered modem with cable and speed in 800-900 Kbs range on Verizon Wireless network.10.Synchronizes calendar, contacts and memos with Macbook.11.Good SMS function: threads messages. But Centro is not without flaws: the default OK button is on Voicemail and dials Voicemail unintentionally. I would recommend it if you need a solid, trustworthy smartphone, but on Verizon, not on AT&T. I have not been able to sync over Bluetooth or use Bluetooth modem. Having used 3 Windows Mobile phones, iPhone, Balckberry Storm, Palm Treo 755p & Nokia E51, I think Centro is closest to the ideal smartphone but AT&T network does not hold water to Verizon Wirelss network in reliability.1. Windows Mobile phones are horrendous: packed with features that don't work and smartphone operating system is the most unreliable.4. Symbian based Nokia phones are fairly decent smartphones but their availability on US cellular carriers is very limited.
Verizon Wireless, the best network in US, has none.In my experience Palm operating system is one of the most trusty and functional smartphone operating systems. Blackberries shine when it comes to email.3. Google style but not stylish, fun & glamorous like iPhone & Mac. Reasonable size & weight (119 gms) and is pocketable and you have to carry phone with you all the time. Fairly decent availability of applications.8. iPhone is the best MP3, video and multimedia player, has the best user interface and mobile browser experience but is abysmal as a phone in comparison to Verizon Centro.
Centro is supposedly the last in the Palm lineage phones. As of March 2009, I think Palm Centro is one of the best smartphones available. Ideal weight for a phone is less than 100 gms.3. Font size is small and has to be individually adjusted in each application. Here is my Gestalt on smartphones.1.
Get a $900 Smartphone, but simple things like contacts will, most likely, run slower on it. This phone is small, easy to carry, easy to use, simple interface, and fast. Palm has a lot of 3rd party applications (some are even free) that can do a lot of things other phones can't (medical, database, special timers, etc. Today Palm does multimedia, but what is really strong in the Palm is how well it organizes everything; contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, etc.Again if you want more you can add more, but if you really want more than the centro can offer you won't get it at this price from any brand. I would call this a Starter Smart-Phone and a good one at that.
Want great battery, reception, sound, memory, etc. software). People want it to do everything and they want it done great. Let me tell you, this isn't a phone to compete with the i-phone, or high-end smartphones. You know, not even High-end smartphones can do everything great, and they cost doubble.
Again if you wan't more bells and whistles you can put them in yourself, but they are a choice because the siemple interface is easier.
Hope this helps. Other than that I am OK. Other people have talked about most features/issues so I don't want to repeat them, Still in a nutshell - I like this phone because I like simple Palm OS and I have owned Palm products ever since the first Palm Pilot. Palm customer service SUCKS BIG TIME though :-( I gave three stars for bad customer service and inferior internal antena. Name the clip and then use it as ringtone. The quality is obviously not as crisp as the source but certainly good enough to play as ringtone. but the signal strength is not always good. Small QUERTY keys are fine for me too.
Will buy it again future if the quality of antena improves. Many people have tried programs like Ringo for playing their fav tunes as ringtones, however I found a crude but successful and free way to achieve the same. It doesn't require any setup or additional software to purchase and clutter your Phone. I have owned unlocked Palm Centro for over six months now. OS is still very simple and user friendly, If you don't want fancies of iPhone, this is a nice phone. On your Centro Go to 'Sounds', tap 'New' and simply hold your Centro in front of the source playing the tune (like boombox or laptop)and record it mannually.
At the end, still not able to hotsync. My first set of calls to the palm smartphone support resulted in "hard reset" of my device, with data lost since my hotsync two weeks earlier. They suggest I purchase "PDFIXIT", from an outside source and run it to see if it will find and fix the corrupt entry, and resolve the problem. Minor peeve is that despite the touch screen, you can only enter text with the (tiny) keyboard, not by writing the letters as with regular palm PDA's. Buy a Blackberry. When the problem recurred a month after purchase, I spent two hours on the support line un-installing and re-installing the software on my computer, making new user names and moving the data into them, etc.
The desktop/sync software for this phone is not ready for prime time. I bought this phone because I have been using Palm PDA for years, and wanted to have one device not two, and have all my #'s already in my phone. Major peeve is that when I converted my databases on my PC to the software that came with the phone, the hotsync function became unreliable, and then stopped working entirely. They say one of the databases is likely corrupted, and they cannot help me.
